Re election of Chamber leaders
Members of Chew Valley Chamber of Commerce unanimously re-elected Sandy Bell as their President, along with Vice President, Rod Podger.
A well attended Annual General Meeting at the Pelican in Chew Magna heard an up beat review of the year and some ideas for future activities, including improving public transport links, supporting economic development and raising the Chamber’s own profile.
After thanking members for support Mrs Bell said she was pleased to see that core membership was still strong and new members were continuing to join us: “We have a good website and during the year we have also created a Facebook page for the Chamber (@cvcocommerce). In November, we heard from an expert on social media, which helped members decide which of the various platforms, if any, were right for them.”
She explained that during the year, among other things, members had heard from two Bath and North East Somerset Council Cabinet Members, contributed to the Bristol Airport Development consultation process and discussed a number of issues relevant to business, including the possibility of creating a second car park in Chew Magna which could be used by workers and so freeing up spaces behind the Pelican.
Looking ahead, the Chamber will be concentrating on three main areas.
“For some time we have been keen to see improved public transport links, potentially with smaller vehicles taking people to join up with the main arterial systems in Withywood and Whitchurch. I have been in contact with First Bus and we will be exploring opportunities which would be of huge benefit.”
“Secondly, we will be looking for new ideas to help develop the local economy and finally we will be considering how to raise our own profile, possibly by advertising at local sports clubs,” she added.
The next meeting of Chew Valley Chamber of Commerce will be Thursday May 16th. For more information please contact tintinna@aol.com
